ABOUT KATE

I'm running for Kentucky's House District 33 to represent communities in Oldham, Jefferson, and Shelby Counties in Frankfort. We need representatives who are willing to fight for families across Kentucky, regardless of how they look, what’s in their bank account, where they live, or who they love.

After working as a civil and environmental engineer, I lost my first job out of college in 2012 when the economy took a hit. At 23, I was left with crippling student loans, little financial security, and could only keep health insurance because of the ACA's passage months before. My story would have a much different ending without health insurance. Shortly after losing my job, I had a bad kitchen accident which required surgery and physical therapy to regain use of my left hand. The cost of my care was more than $15k; I would have lost so much more if I didn’t have healthcare coverage.

Determined to get back on my feet, I picked up retail and service jobs. I successfully began a career in Real Estate and Construction Management in the retail industry, until the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Like so many folks across Kentucky, I again lost my job, and with it, my health insurance. I chose to move into my family home in Pewee Valley to reduce my living expenses so I could afford to pay for my healthcare costs. I am incredibly lucky that I had my family to fall back on, and that I was relatively young and healthy.

But what about families less fortunate than mine-- with mortgage payments, children and dependents, and no family home to move into? I decided to run for office because every Kentuckian deserves a good-paying job, economic stability, access to affordable healthcare, a quality public school education, affordable college, and an environment sustainable for generations. This is my story and I hope to meet you and hear yours along the way.
